Lincoln County’s Last Week of Programming

As the summer ends in Lincoln County, we are absolutely blown away by all that God has done. Throughout the summer, the YouthWorks participants have blessed over a dozen homes in Lincoln County. Janice Miller’s house is almost finished. The outside is painted, the statue has been fixed, the walls are up and painted, and a window has been put in. In the upcoming week we will finish her ceiling, and finish the walls in the back room. Those who worked with her will be glad to know that Joani took fourth at the local fair with her trained rabbit, and Janice did well with her preserves. Rose, Richard, Raymond, Roberta, Danny, Linda, the Duval School, GL, and the Mclures have all been blessed, and have continued to thank us for all that God has done through YouthWorks. At Kid’s Club, we have continued to see what God’s love is doing with the children of Lincoln County. Mackenzie still wears the necklace one participant gave him to remind him how to handle his temper. DJ’s mohawk is growing out, and he is warming up to having to tell Lindsay daily that he loves her. Many of the kids wear their shirts they made with pride.
It has been a difficult past few weeks, as we have had to tell our Lincoln County friends that this will be the last summer YouthWorks will be in the area, and that next year we are moving to a new community. It is made easier knowing that God has Lincoln County well in the palm of His hand, and that the participants have allowed us to leave this community well, having spent a summer blessing them in God’s name.

This summer has flown by, and I have loved being Program in Logan, WV. It is amazing to connect with youth while scraping paint, installing drywall, and playing four-square. As the weeks have progressed, I have seen God doing innumerable incredible things in the hearts of high school students, in the lives of community members, and in my own hardened heart as well. At the beginning of the summer, someone advised me to lay everything before God and to let Him carry my burden. This piece of advice has absolutely been one of the best things I have ever been told, and in turning to God in all things, I have seen His hands and heard his voice every single day here. Throughout changes, transitions, unexpected turns, and bumps along the way, I have been able to rely on Him, and He has changed me beyond measure and is still doing so.
